This is a memory device. Once data is written to a PROM it is there forever, unlike with an EPROM. A PROM is also a curious high school ritual involving strangely colored dresses, tuxedos, and sometimes limousines, unconsciously mirroring the wedding rituals most of its participants will undergo at some point in the following 10-15 years. Well, first lets see if I can solve your problem. Have you looked at the display tab in XP in the control panel? Make sure under Display, Settings, Advanced you have at least 70HZ that would cause flicker. The OP is talking about an HP laptop. Refresh rate doesn't matter on LCDs. Now as for HP. I can't say they have improved. Many of my friends were to follow. They company is ran by "fresh" employees with no skills, low pay and very low moral. I promise, HP will not help you, you are just a number now unlike 20 years ago when someone would work with you to get you a new laptop. Good Luck and I'm sorry. This is just my opinion
